I’ll be honest…I’m not a huge fan of visiting New York, lol…I mean, I’m sure it would be different as a local, but in general visiting as a tourist, I can do without it. When I think of New York, the smell of pee, the rush and aggressiveness in the air, and the expensive taste come to mind. But…it was my sisters’ graduation sooo we decided to take advantage and turn this into a vacation. It was Shirley’s 1st time in new york as well, so we had to visit all the attractions.
We left Vegas/LAS @ 9am and arrived at New York/EWR @5 then took a Lyft(cost about $57.54) to 50hotel located in Chinatown.
I would highly recommend staying at this place. It ended being a very clutch location. Close to great food/drinks, easy to explore around, and was close to the subway.
We arrived in the hotel around 7, unpacked and freshened up, and headed downstairs to the next door over, which was jose shangai. I was pretty excited because this appeared on top of everyone’s foodie list and was one of the top-rated places on yelp. Immmma say it’s all hype, yes the soup dumplings were bomb af, but everything else was okay. I would recommend getting the soup dumplings to go as a snack and then head somewhere else for dinner.
Afterward, we finished the night w/ some pie from Petee’s down the street, which was ?.
Day 2!
We saw the Hotel’s Gym had some pelotons, so we woke up around 730am and got a light workout in. A quick shower later, we walked over to Davelle! Super cozy Japanese cafe. I’ve been here a few times, and I love the atmosphere it has. It feels like a place where you can catch up with a friend for hours while having some cute food. You got to have the toast! It’s a banger. I do believe they use the balmuda to toast the bread because they sell it in-store. We ordered the black sesame toast (seasonal), berry berry toast, and vegan matcha latte/iced/ w/oat milk. Total listed below. Overall a 5/5 for me, cute place, cute food, and it does live up to its hype. The total bill was: $31
Afterward, we did a very ambitious tiring walk. We started at Wall Street to see the Golden Bull->9/11 memorial->pier 26/Hudson river park->snack @ joes pizza-> the “Friends” show building->took a train up to the Grand Central Park & got some sweet greens to snack on.
Note: I would recommend getting the 7day pass for the subway; I believe it was $33.
After catching our breath at the park, we decided to freshen back up at the hotel and meet back up with my sister. We walked around Little Italy and ate at de Gennaro; from here, we took the subway to NY time square to see it in evening. It was so lively! We ended up taking a seat at the benches to take it all in. We ended the night with some drinks at a speakeasy type of place called the Tuxedo.
