A weekend in Sedona, AZ

April 28, 2021
Sedona has never striked me as a hot spot to go to. If we wanted to take a short camping trip we would usually opt out for Zion, but after going there 10+ times it gets old fast. So we switched it up for Sedona. This trip has definitely changed my pespective. The plethora amount of trails, ease of access to the town, those “vortex” vibes, this place has now become my new fave.
This was our first time taking out the doggies as well! We definitely over packed for them but it was better safe than sorry! Here’s a quick recap of what we packed:

Our first camping site should have been Mazanita campgroud but it was first come first serve. We checked it out but the site was full. The camp host did recommend to try out a private ground in the city called Camp Avalon. It turned out to be a completely gorgeous area, PLUS it was way closer to the trails.

We only did two hikes but I realized that I loved how easy and flat the trails were for such rewarding views :).

Other stops:
ChocolaTree – vegan focused coffee shop
Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village – charming place to walk around

We first started off with the birthing cave. I forgot to take a picture but about after 0.6 miles, you’ll come up to a fork, marked by a wooden fence. You want to turn left here, and head towards the canyons. At some point you’ll come up a steep hill and you’re already there!

Our second hike was Boynton Canyon. I would recommend downloading Alltrails and using someones mapped trail as a guide. I would say for the public part of the trail it’s flat and very easy to navigate through. The moment you take the social trail to the subway though it can get a bit dicey if you don’t have a gps. I even got lost having the gps on lol. The trail will get tight and you’ll have to single file but it was all still doable for us and the doggos.   When we reached the ‘Subway’ there was a big fatty line. We decided to setup lunch and wait. There was a steep slope right before the viewpoint that some of the dogs were having trouble getting up to, someone recommended trying to backtrack from the exit instead. Apart from overshooting the exit by about 50 feet in elevation and wasting a good 30 minutes. I would recommend doing this as well if you have puppers.
